First Day Jitters

August 29, 2008

It’s back to school time for Sarah, but she’s not going to her new school! Mr. Hartwell reminds Sarah of all the good times she had at her old school and the new friends she’ll meet, but all Sarah remembers are paper airplanes, pulled pigtails, and gigantic bubbles, but eventually she gets out of bed and gets dressed. Mr. Hartwell orders Sarah to breakfast, puts her in the car, takes her to school, and drops her off to join the children heading through the school doors.

The illustrations are bright and colorful with detailed depictions of happy little faces. Love vividly captures the hubbub of the fateful first day of school and artfully sets the reader up for a surprise ending (take a guess!).

This is a great read for any nervous school-goers, whether they’re just starting kindergarten or big 3rd graders!
