A note from the Director:

Congratulations to the Friends of the Haverford Township Free Library on the 10th anniversary of their Book Sale! The Book Sale that will take place on the lower level of the Library on Friday night September 28, Saturday, September 29 and Sunday October 30, and raises much needed money for special programs, equipment and services for HTFL.  Please visit the Library and purchase wonderful books for your collection, your children or other family members or even your friends. 

Become a member of the Friends and take advantage of very special offers, including free DVD rentals and fine forgiveness.Ask at the library’s circulation desk for information.

Thank you to those who attended our 2012 Business Breakfast! More than 80 local business owners, government officials, and business people joined together for a morning of networking and information sharing.

Ancestry Online and Heritage Quest

Calling all amateur genealogists! The library offers free access to Ancestry (only available for in-library use) and Heritage Quest
(available at Find census records, immigration records and even archived newspaper articles regarding your ancestors. In Heritage Quest, you can also research for publications about cities, towns, and regions relevant to your family history. The School District of Haverford Township, in conjunction with the Haverford Township Adult School and the Haverford Township Free Library, is proud to offer an evening with renowned parenting expert and speaker Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg, M.D. Topics include: how to foster high achievement in children while instilling a love of learning; keeping our children/teens safe by teaching them positive decision-making, and communication strategies that position parents to be unwavering positive forces in their children's lives.

What’s My Kid Reading?:
Making Sense of Young Adult Fiction

Tuesday, October 16 –- 7:00 pm
Haverford Township Free Library

Feeling unsure about the books your kids are reading? This class may be for you! Come learn about current young adult literature such as the Twilight Series and Hunger Games Series. Learn how to determine if a book is developmentally appropriate for your child.  This program will be led by Heather Hebert, owner and operator of Children’s Book World and Marianne Martino, certified school and licensed psychologist.

This program is being offered through a partnership of Haverford Township Adult School and the Haverford Township Free Library.

Hollywood goes Classic!

This fall will see an unprecedented number of classic books made into movies. Many of us read (or reread) a book before we see the film, so HTFL is here to help!

Join us as we discuss some of these classic books that are headed for the big screen. October's selection is Anna Karenina. This series will continue November 4 with The Hobbit and December 2 with The Great Gatsby. See these films over the holidary season and join us for a discussion in January.

Just stop by the reference desk at the Library to register and pick up a copy of the book.

Considering working full-time, exploring a new career, finding a meaningful volunteer experience, pursuing a hobby, interest or unfulfilled dream? Coming of Age’s® Explore Your Future Workshop is for you!

Designed to help people 50 and older chart a path to an engaged, fulfilling future. Explore Your Future provides rich interactive exercises and lively discussions to guide you on taking your next steps. Participants will receive a comprehensive workbook, filled with activities, website links and other resources. Let Coming of Age® help you create a vision of “what’s next” in your life.

Facilitated by Mary Catherine Dabrowski, Director, Surrey at Havertown.

Creative Corner Storytime

Thursdays -- 1:30 pm
Creative Corner offers older preschoolers, ages 4 and 5, the opportunity to have fun, stretch their creative muscles, and enjoy dramatic play.

Purpose of the Program:  To provide a space for older preschoolers to connect reading and fun while enjoying an art activity or dramatic play experience with their caregiver.

Creative Corner Programs Include: Age appropriate books; songs and rhymes; creative expression activities like art or play

Benefits:  Helps your child get ready to read; Quality time for child/caregiver; Increased confidence with tools used for art (i.e. using scissors); Support, camaraderie with other caregivers.

This program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Smile! -- Raina Telgemeier Visits Teen Graphic Novel Club

Monday, September 24 -- 3:00 pm

You heard that right – Eisner Award winning graphic novelist, Raina Telgemeier is coming HERE!

Her book, Smile, a critically acclaimed graphic memoir, was a New York Times bestseller and winner of the Will Eisner Award for Best Publication for Teens, and received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor. Raina also adapted and illustrated "The Baby-sitters Club" graphic novels, which were selected for YALSA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens list and Booklist’s Top 10 Graphic Novels for Youth list. Raina lives in Astoria, New York, with her husband and fellow comics artist, Dave Roman. To learn more, visit her online at

Raina’s presentation is geared to teens in grades 6 and up. She’ll be talking about her newest book, Drama, the process of writing her graphic novels, drawing and signing books!

Avengers Screening & Costume Contest

Want to watch them do it all over again?

Of course you do, they have a Hulk.

Stop by after school on Friday and come watch Earth's Mightiest Heroes.  We'll help recreate the movie experience by screening it on our large projector.  There will be food, drink, and most importantly - a copy of Avengers to give away.

That's right, best dressed Avenger will walk away with their own copy of the film!
