A Note from the Director:

Don't miss the opportunity to visit eight neighborhood gardens in Haverford Township and get ideas for your own garden in your own backyard with a bonus tour of the Historic Grange Estate and reception--all for only $15 per person (tickets purchased in advance); $20 day of the event.  This all happens Saturday, June 16! Also, come hear the music and see the dances of 1912 as we pay homage to the Titanic on the 100th year anniversary on Sunday, June 10.

Third Annual Garden Tour

Saturday, June 16 -- 11:00 am - 3:00 pm


Explore some of the beautiful gardens in Haverford Township!  Tickets are now on sale at the Library's front desk.  Purchase your ticket prior to June 16th for $15, or the day of for $20.  On tour day, pick-up your ticket and map at the Grange Estate, Myrtle Avenue, Havertown, between 10:30 am and noon.

After you do your self-guided tour, return to the Grange at 3:30 pm for a reception and tour of their gardens.  You may also purchase plants as part of the Grange's annual plant sale.

Volunteers are still needed.  If you are interested in volunteering, please call Janae Alberts (610) 642-7831.


Looking for a volunteer opportunity?

Looking for a way to help the library and the Friends of HTFL?  The Friends of the Library are looking for volunteers to help with book sorting every month for all of the donated books they receive.  If you have a couple of hours to spare on the last Monday of the month at 6:00 pm, please contact info@friendsofthehtfl.org.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Titanic: A Salute through Dance

Sunday, June 10 @ 2:00 pm

Join us as we commemorate the Titanic’s maiden and only voyage. Performers and researchers Nancy Walkers and Jef Savage will perform social dances from the Titanic era while dressed in period clothing. They will also discuss the importance of dance in its cultural and social context while also including musical excerpts and personalities associated with the Titanic like the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown.


Between the Covers : Adult Summer Reading 2012

Read what you want, when you want. Come into the library to sign up and pick up your complimentary book and bag. After finishing each book, stop by and fill out "Sweepstakes Slips" to be entered to win prizes! Winners will be selected regularly throughout the summer.

Dream Big - READ!  

Summer Reading Club 2012

June 18 - August 10

Summer is here, and it's time to kick back, relax, and have fun and that's what we're going to do in the Children's Room!

It's easy to be a part of the Dream Big, READ Summer Reading Club (SRC) for kids ages 2 through those entering 5th grade - sign up in the Children's Room, read at home, earn incentives and have fun at optional programs. Kids who participate in summer library programs keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed. Visit haverfordlibrary.org/DreamBig for all the details.

Ready to Read: Dream Big, READ @ HTFL is a program designed to help children ages birth through 23 months and caregivers connect reading, fun, and the library. Simply stop by the Library (beginning June 18) to pick up your Activity Log, work on the log all summer, and come back to the Library anytime between August 6th and August 12th to receive a goody bag as your prize! Children's Programs on Break

Storytimes and programs for children ages 0-5 and elementary-aged children will take a break from May 25 - June 18 when the Summer Reading Club begins!

The Philadelphia Zoo's Zoo on Wheels crew is stopping at HTFL for a Summer Reading Club Show that will knock your socks off! Check out real, live nocturnal animals in this program.



Teen Summer Reading Program

Own the Night

Teens will OWN THE NIGHT as they party with us throughout the summer. Sign up for the summer reading prize program, read at home, and participate in optional programming at the Library. Teen Summer Reading is for those entering grades 6th through 12th in fall and runs June 18th through August 10th.

Join the Anime Club as they watch anime and learn about the culture of Japan through crafts and activities. The Graphic Novel Club will continue this summer - exercise your drawing skills with a focus on storytelling. Artistic ability not required, just enthusiasm! Rock some awesome tournaments at Gaming Days and have the opportunities to win GameStop monies.

Special Events will include parties for the release of The Amazing Spider Man and Dark Knight Rises, win tickets to opening night! Jam to the end of the world at our Zombie Apocalypse Party and earn money towards your HTFL fines at our Rock Your Fines a Way Rock Band/Guitar Hero tournament.


Teen Programs Taking a Break!

Between June 4 and 15th, teen programming will be on break, but will resume on Monday, June 18 with the Teen Summer Reading Club.

Daedelus Education Services - Advance Test Review

Advance Test Review has been helping students maximize their SAT, ACT, PSAT, GRE, GMAT and LSAT scores since 1972. The company goal is to enable students to achieve the high entrance exam scores they need to earn merit aid, scholarships, fellowships, and grants. Through professional classes or one-to-one tutoring Advance instructors tailor question answering strategies to take advantage of each student’s individual problem solving skills. High school student athletes preparing to submit ACT or SAT scores to college recruiters find these techniques extremely helpful in achieving their goals.

This summer Haverford Township Free Library, Merion Mercy Academy, Sea Isle City Recreation Department, and the Ocean View Baptist Church will be offering ATR’s score-raising Ace the SAT workshops. Year round Advance provides West Chester University formal graduate entrance exam courses.

The outstanding staff members at Advance Test Review are experts in the tests they teach. Each instructor has at least a Masters degree and has years of experience teaching the academic skills necessary for students to score their personal best.

Advance is well known for its community involvement and fund raising. Through innovative after school programs such as the 2400 Club and its one-day Ace the SAT Workshops Advance Test Review has donated net profits to sponsoring organizations.  In 2011 and 2012, Advance Test Review has held four Ace the SAT Workshops at the Haverford Township Free Library raising over $3,000 for the Library.
