Borrowing eBooks on your Kindle

Attention Kindle Fire users!

You can also download audiobooks and listen to them on your Kindle Fire using the OverDrive Media Console app.  To view the tutorial on how to download the app, see our OverDrive Media Console app for iOS devices. Downloading library ebooks for the Kindle

Before you can check out ebooks from DCLS, here’s what you need:

  • A computer that connects to the internet 
  • An active library card (if your card is expired or you have a fine of over $10, please call the library at 610-446-3082)
  • Your Kindle / Amazon ID and password
  • Wifi-enabled Kindle or the Kindle USB cable 
 

1. Go to digitallibrary.delcolibraries.org.

2.  Use either the search bar or browse to find an available book that you wish to download.

3. When you see a book you’d like to check out, click on the cover.

4. Click “Borrow.”

5. Enter your library card number.

6. Click “sign in.”

7. Click the button that says “Download (select format)

8. Select “Kindle ebook

9. Click “Confirm & Download

10. Once on the Amazon site, click “Get Library Book.”

11. If you are not logged in to your Amazon account, you will be prompted to do so now. If you already are, skip to step 12.

12. Select the device you wish to read your ebook on and click “Continue.”

If you have a wifi-enabled Kindle, you’re done!

When you connect your Kindle to wifi, your book will automatically deliver. If your Kindle does not support wifi, you’ll need to continue on. 
 

To load your ebook onto your Kindle without using wifi:

11. After selecting the device you wish to read your ebook and clicking the “Continue button,” you’ll be instructed to download the ebook if your Kindle does not support wifi.  Click on the button that says “Download Now.”
 
12. A popup screen will appear, prompting you to save the file. Save the file in a place where you can easily find it.
 
13. After saving the file, connect your Kindle to your computer using the USB cable.
 
14. When your computer recognizes that you have connected your Kindle, open it up on the computer.  For a Mac, you can double click the Kindle icon on your desktop.  For a Windows machine, you can go to the Start button, then to My Computer. You’ll see your Kindle listed as “Devices with Removable Storage.”  Double click your Kindle icon from there.
 
15. Once you have opened the Kindle, drag your ebook into the “Documents” file on your Kindle.
 
16. After uploading the file, eject the Kindle from the computer.
