Yoga Permission

This summer we'll be offering two FREE yoga classes for kids in elementary school as part of the Summer Reading Club. The classes will be held in the Community Room on Mondays June 28th and July 12th at 1pm.

Each participant needs to have a signed permission slip from their parent or guardian. You may download the slip here and send it with your child or sign one at the library before their first session!

Your Library

Your Haverford Township library account card entitles you to use the services of any of the 26 Delaware County Library System member public libraries and most libraries in Pennsylvania. If HTFL does not have a particular resource, customers can usually request the item through our Library website or with the assistance of Library staff.

The HTFL Staff and Library Board of Trustees are dedicated to doing everything possible within their power to help meet your educational, informational and entertainment needs. We recognize that our only purpose for being is to help you.

We also recognize that the presence of a library says so much about the quality of life in a community and having a library says a lot about the type of community that leaders want to offer their constituents. So, we are grateful for the support given to the Library by Haverford Township. Likewise, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania also provides pivotal funds and services alongside Delaware County in insuring HTFL library operations current and future. We also are grateful for the support that we get from citizens and organizations in our region.

One precious source of strength for us is the Friends of the Haverford Township Library, a non-profit organization that provides monetary and logistical resources for Library services and development. Do consider joining as fundraising and advocacy are essential undertakings!

But, above all else, our most valuable asset is our customer base -- the residents of Haverford Township and surrounding areas.  Our citizen-customers are our purpose for existing.

Sincerely, it is a privilege and a pleasure to serve you.

Please visit us often in person and online.

Library Advocacy

June has arrived and there are signs that serious state budget negotiations are underway.  Governor Rendell and all of our legislators need to hear from all HTFL Library advocates now and for as long as the budget development process takes.

Some information the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLa) would like you to know:

1.       The recession continues to drag down tax collections so the revenue shortfall heading into the next state budget is estimated at between $1.2 and $1.5 billion.  This amount will need to be closed through deeper budget cuts and/or new or increased taxes and fees in the next state budget.
2.       PaLa meetings with legislators and staff in Harrisburg indicate that some do not realize or do not remember how deeply library funding was cut in this current budget.  This concerns library advocates, especially if budget negotiators are looking for more cuts in state programs.  That’s why a new alert is up on the PaLa website http://www.capwiz.com/ala/pa/home.  Please read it, share the link with others, and take action.
3.       The Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) has launched a Facebook page called: “Pennsylvania's 5.6 Million Library Cardholders Can’t Be Wrong.”  Here’s a link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123050057708453
4.       Log on to Facebook, join this group, and help spread the word about libraries and the need for restored funding and greater access to services.

HTFL and the Pennsylvania Library Association will keep the information flowing as the process continues in Harrisburg.  For now, the PaLa suggestion is to reach out to Governor Rendell and to our state senators and state representatives.  Remind them that libraries already have been hit hard and what is needed is some restored funding to restore more access—not more cuts.

Thanks you all for all of your hard work in support of restoring access to library services.
