The Haitian-American author of Create Dangerously, Edwidge Danticat, will be visiting Haverford High School on Friday, March 16 at 9:15am for a book discussion--register here to be included in the guest list. She is the Free Library of Philadelphia's 2012 award winning, One Book One Philadelphia Author. HTFL, in partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia, School District of Haverford Township, and Rotary Club of Havertown, will host the author for a meet, greet and book signing at 11:00am at the Library. Please join us for refreshments--copies of Ms. Danticat's books will be available for sale.
We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Maurice Sendak exhibition-In a Nutshell: the Worlds of Maurice Sendak, 200 sq. ft panels that offer some glimpses into the art and writing of beloved children's author, Maurice Sendak. Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen are two of the works that will be highlighted in this six week exhibit, March 8 through April 20. A series of programs have been developed around this extraordinary event, including a book discussion series, Wild Rumpus! for children of all ages, lecture on Sendak's genealogical explorations, a Yiddish song and Klezmer clarinet intergenerational program, and Gallery Tour of the Rosenbach Museum-and much more!
We will host an Opening Reception for the exhibit on Thursday, March 8 from 7-9pm on the first floor of the library. Patrick Rodgers, curator of the Rosenbach Museum's exhibit will be on hand to facilitate the evening.
The Haverford Township Free Library is one of 35 libraries nationwide to receive an American Library Association travelling exhibition titled "In a Nutshell: The Worlds of Maurice Sendak." The event will take place from March 8 through April 20 and involve a series of programs exploring the influences on Sendak's work, including the sights and sounds of his childhood in New York in the 1930's , friends and family, his family's history and his Jewish identity. Stay tuned for further information on this exhibit and program series.
