Haverford Township Historical Society

The Historical Society's website has information about local historic sites, history and events. It includes photos, maps, and other digitized materials that are useful in learning about the area as well as contact information for more research. The Historical Society has also worked with the Hidden Collections project through both the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries and links to the online collections that are available there.

History Research Center

History Research Center provides primary documents, maps & graphs, articles, images, and news on topics such as African-American history, American history, ancient and medieval history, modern world history and world religions.  Requires a library card for use.  Highly recommended.

Philadelphia Inquirer Historical Archive

Retrieve actual images of the newspaper.  Includes some issues from the 1830s, 1840s, and 1850s.  Primary source material detailing the expansion of the city of Philadelphia and the development of the western suburbs from 1829-1922.

Haverford Township Free Library Reference Collection

REF 909-974 covers events from ancient history to modern times through a variety of reference materials, including book sets and single volumes.  

Haverford Township Free Library Non-Fiction/Biography Collections

Non-fiction section 909-974 covers ancient history, wars, histories of countries with emphasis on the United States and Presidential histories.  Some books are also available on CD or MP3. 

Great Courses Collection

College-level courses produced by professors chosen for their ability to teach.  Some Great Courses come on CD while others on DVD.   Sample titles include Great Battles of the Ancient World, Chinese History, Renaissance Reformation and the Rise of the Nations, and The American Civil War.
